Autumn at Eikesdalsvannet / Eikesdalsvatnet
No, it's not late. This photo was taken in the afternoon, but in October the sun is so low that the golden rays hardly make it to the bottom of the valley at all. In spite of the beauty; the snow on the peaks is a reminder of what nature has in store for us.
The first snow in Skorgedalen
King Winter beat us back to Skorgedalen by about three hours; looking out the kitchen window at the first snow of the season.
Making fire with firesteel and flint
Bad weather makes room for indoor fun. This is Robin making fire with firesteel and flint. A slice of Fomes fomentarius treated with lye and dried, is used to catch sparks and serve as tinder.
Robin operating a bat detector
We have been keen bird-watchers for years, and this autumn we had a go at bat-watching. Robin is operating a bat detector, a gadget that turns sounds inaudible to our ears into sounds we can hear. Quite interesting standing there listening to the calls and target detection sounds of these small, flying mammals.
